EastEnders Tanya Jessop to face cervical cancer diagnosis
Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust has been working closely with EastEnders to accurately reflect and highlight cervical cancer in their storyline involving one of their leading characters, Tanya Jessop.
Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust is the UK's only charity dedicated to those affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities. It offers a range of online and face to face support and information including: information materials, a Helpline 0808 802 8000, online forum, local support groups and an Ask the Expert service.
Did you know that every year in the UK over 2,800 women will be diagnosed with cervical cancer and nearly 1,000 women will die from the disease. After breast cancer, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women aged 35 and under. Women and girls can reduce their risk of cervical cancer by taking up HPV Vaccination and attending cervical screening when invited.
Robert Music, director of Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust said, "Tanya received the news that she has cervical cancer after receiving her results from routine cervical screening test. We hope that by showing this storyline to Eastenders' millions of viewers it will not only raise awareness of cervical cancer but also help the public to be more informed about the issues women and their families face during diagnosis and treatment."
