Organise your own Walk for Fun

Why not organise your own Jo’s Trust Walk for Fun on Saturday 11th or Sunday 12th June 2011?

The Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust 2011 Walk for Fun is the  fourth year of this national event. Walk for Fun is about getting people together to raise funds and awareness for cervical cancer. By getting together as a group we can celebrate life and also remember those who have lost their battle with cervical cancer. The London Walk for Fun is being held in Hyde Park on 12th June.  If you can't make the London event you could organise your own walk?!

If you would like to organise a Walk for Fun in your area, here are some points to help you:

  • The walk should be around 5 km and take about an hour to complete. Possible venues for a walk could include public parks, sports grounds, etc. However, these may require permission and possibly even a licence, so please ensure that you contact the relevant local authority to see if you need permission. Remember that you can contact Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust at anytime if you need help with acquiring permission.
  •  Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust has a public liability insurance policy which will cover a public walk. If you are thinking about organising any other activity along side your walk (i.e a bouncy castle), please be aware that you may not be insured and you need to contact us to discuss the details of your walk.

Promoting your walk

  • The Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust office can provide you with Walk for Fun posters and other materials to help publicise your event. There is space on the poster for you to add your name and contact information.
  • Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust can promote your event on our website so please let us know if you are going to hold an event with all the details as soon as possible. Other ways of promoting your event include email, online using: My Space, FaceBook, Bebo, Twitter or on your own website or a friend’s website. Free editorials in magazines, local newspapers, school booklets or village directories are useful to help spread the word. Your local radio station may also be willing to promote your Walk for Fun. If you need a press release please contact the Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust office as we have a template we could send you.

Registering and raising funds for the walk

  • The entry fee is just £5 per person (Children 16 or under are free).  All participants need to register for the event using our online registration form. If participants want to pay by cheque they should be made payable to Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.
  • We ask that each participant aims to raise a minimum of £50. The easiest way to raise funds is by setting up a donation page using JustGiving (see below for instructions on how to do this) alternatively you can use Virgin Money Giving.
  • Sponsorship forms for participants attending the walk are available by post or email from Jo’s Trust, or they can be downloaded from our website.
