Gerald's story

Skydiving in support of Jo's

After an average day at university, I got a call from my mother in Sweden. We talked about normal everyday things; work, friends, family. Approaching our goodbyes, my mother worked up the courage to tell me the most hurtful two words I've ever heard in my life; "I'm sick."

She didn't need to say much more then that. My stomach turned and my hands turned cold.

Earlier in the day, my mother had gone for a routine check up, only to come home a completely different woman. They had diagnosed her with cervical cancer. Any womans worst nightmare. A son's worst nightmare.

I was completely and utterly helpless. After several sleepless nights, I decided I was going to make a difference. I was already aware of a Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust. I wanted to make a difference but how was I going to make a significant impact?

I decided it had to be a skydive! The jump is booked for the beginning of February 2011. Anyone who knows me would know that I can't climb a ladder without getting cold sweats. This was the perfect opportunity to get enough people to sponsor me to make a real difference. Since the start of my fundraising, the staff at Jo's have been nothing but helpful and supportive, cheering me on every step of the way. Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and everyone who donated to my cause has help my entire family out of depression. My mother and millions of women like her will be better off with money gone towards helping women who have been affected by cervical cancer.
