1 year post treatment scan

So last week I got my 1 year post treatment ct scan results, my last day of brachytherapy was august 6 th last year.  I was so nervous, I still get really anxious waiting on the results, they came back NED , so that was a relief, don't have a scan till February a mri. Next year I believe I'll be down to 2 scans, hopefully. The mri in February and a ct scan in august and my pelvic exams still every 3 months. I have been having discomfort when sitting down going on since July, my gynecologist oncologist took a at the end of July and couldn't tell what's wrong, so I'm starting to think it's something with my urethra. Especially since the problem occurred after taking a 10 day antibiotic for a uti in late June. I told my radiation dr about my discomfort last week when he was giving me my scan results. He performed a pelvic exam and said he couldn't see anything wrong, he advised me to go see a regular gynecologist and not my gynecologist oncologist, so they can be more focused on what to look for and not just looking to see if my cervix is free of cancer. I have a appointment with a gynecologist in the beginning of October then it's time to see my gynecologist oncologist at the end of October. I just feel like I'm not getting anywhere right now, and think somebody just needs to refer me to a urologist already. I started estrogen cream a month ago, hoping to see some benefits to my urethra. I think it's still to early, but I have noticed after 2 weeks on the cream I've gotten a lot more narrower inside, my dilators feel like they have a lot less room in there. Even having sex a little over a week ago my boyfriend was like" woah it feels tight in there". I may need to get a bigger dilator now to try to stretch things out a little, I feel like it hasn't helped with sensitivity yet either, if anything I may feel a little more sensitive now then before. My pelvic exam last week felt a little uncomfortable too, I think since there's a little less room in there. Before I started the cream I had a lot of discharge, almost thought I had a yeast infection, but I didn't and they tested for everything and just said that it was my normal discharge right now. So I didn't need to go on the cream for internal dryness , I just wanted to strengthen my urethra and vagina. I'm gonna ask at my appointment at the end of October if I should stay on it or not , but I do feel a little more sensitive in there now and see more redness around my vaginal opening. I bought some vulva cream called VMagic that's all natural and has good reviews, so I'm gonna give that a try and see if that helps with anything.

Marissa!!
I cannot express how happy this post makes me, I am so happy that you are 1 year post treatment and NED!!! Woohoo!! I hope that you have done something lovely to celebrate.
I am so sorry that you are having issues from the treatment still, it takes such a harsh toll on us, certainly in ways I never thought it would. I can only hope that things will get better for you, you've been such a wondeful help to me over the last year, and a shining light in the darkness.
Has anyone offered you a cystoscopy to see if there is anything going on with your urethra or bladder? If not it might be worth an ask.
I used a natural cream called calendula and marshmallow balm it really helped with the soreness from brachy, I had one patch that just rubbed. I do think that the on going effects of scarring last for a long while, this last month everything seems to have gotten tighter for me. I'm bad at using those dilators though lol so in some repects I'm lucky all my consultation appoints are over the phone as I'm not sure I can face a being told off by my consultant for not dilating enough embarassed

My husbands chiropractor also reckons that acupuncture is a really good treatment for menopausal symptoms so if do start to have issues there it could be worth a try. I was going to and then Covid shut everything down.
I do pretty good at burying my head in the sand between scans but my goodness scanxiety is hellish, and then the waiting between scans and results wow I never knew I could drive myself so nuts!
All my results have been over the phone due to lockdown and I haven't had an examination since my colposcopy so that makes me really paranoid but so far so good, my last phone chat my consultant said I was NED and I can't really ask for better than that. My next consultant meeting is a video chat, I think I'm more terrified of that than anything else!
congratuations again on the scan, I am sending loads of virtual hugs and positive vibes that things will improve for you.
much love sweetheart,

Than you Emma, yes I definitely think I would benefit from seeing a urologist and getting a cystoscopy, I just hope one of these doctors refers me to one already.

and I hate using the dilators too, but I make sure to use them at least once a week, I get nervous things will get uncomfortable in there if I don't use them for awhile. I read that the estrogen cream makes your vagina walls thicker to try to help with sensitivity, but I didn't realize it was gonna make me a lot more narrow in there. I may have not needed to go on the cream yet, because I don't think my walls were that thin in there before. I used my dilators yesterday and it felt more sensitive in there then before, so I dunno if that will pass, but for now I'm not really liking the estrogen cream.

good luck with your video chat.
