Back Pain Symptom Question

Hi,

Does anybody know, is back pain a symptom of cervical cancer at all stages or does it show up only if the cancer has spread to the spine?

Thanks.

X

05/09/16 first smear - colposcopy & biopsies taken - letter received - no cancer found but treatment for abnormal cells required - LLETZ - hosp appt - cervical cancer diagnosed - MRI - staged at 1b1, squamous, LVSI present - LLETZ & EUA - LLETZ results appt - cervix clear of cancer - lymph node removal - 17/02/17 lymph node results appt - nodes clear of cancer - in remission :)

Hi

Just to share my own experience.  I was diagnosed with stage 2A cervical cancer within a month of a post-menopausal vaginal bleed.  I did not have any back pain prior to my cc diagnosis, other than my usual on/off musculo-skeletal injury related thing that I'd had for over 20 years.

Feb 04:  (age 47y) Smear test normal

Stopped going for smears!

Summer 16: persistent yellow vaginal discharge

Dec 16: post menopausal vaginal bleed

Jan 17: Hysteroscopy under GA for ?fibroids - abnormal cervix observed -multiple biopsies taken, 1B1 squamous cell cc diagnosed - confirmed by MRI/PET scans

Feb 17: pelvic lymphadenectomy - nodes negative, Da Vinci radical hysterectomy- close anterior margin/LVSI/PNI, restaged to 2A

Apr/May 17: 6x chemo, 25x external radio, 2x brachy

Jul 19:  NED.  Various side effects notably hypotonic bladder since hysterectomy - ongoing ISC, unilateral lymphoedema lower abdo/groin/leg/ankle/foot

Hi Jazza,

Thank you for getting back to me. Sorry, I tried to reply earlier in the week but kept getting an error when I pressed save.

I've got a few symptoms that I'm worried about and waiting for an MRI but the back pain is what's worrying me the most as I don't know if back pain relates to spine metastasis or to CC generally.

Hope you're well x

Hi. I don't think back pain does mean it has spread to the spine. Lower back pain was one of my symptoms pre diagnosis (stage 4a). I've also had lower back pain occasionally post treatment. It was really bad on one occasion and I had a scan. By the time I got the scan results (all clear) the back pain had gone!

Thanks for that Philleepa. I hope you're doing well now.

I've had my MRI scan today so now I've got a couple of weeks to wait for the results.
