Bleeding from Fistula

Hello,

I have a fistula which was caused by radiotherapy. It leaks constantly with gunk, poo and wee. The last couple of days there has been light watery blood and no other symptoms.

I was in hospital last weekend due to a bowel obstruction. My blood tests came back as very good and the CT scan showed scar tissue and nothing ominous, which is all great. However, this blood has me in a tizz. I am wondering about any advice, please?.

I have a lot of scar tissue from having several major operations and I have a colostomy and an urostomy. I have been the all clear and discharged from the cancer hospital.

Take care and stay safe,

Hi LisaCardiff

Good to hear that your test results indicate nothing too serious. I don't have personal experience of your particular problems; I'm wondering if you are more likely to meet ladies with similar experiences to yours on the 'living with advanced cervical cancer' section of this forum?

Take care

Hi,

Thank you for asking. The GP has referred me to the gynae department at our local hospital and told me to contact her in a couple of weeks if they haven't contacted me.

She did confirm and reiterate that my week old full stomach and pelvic CT scan is fine and nothing ominous is on there. Also my blood tests were great, which is great for me. She did mention I have an analvaginal fistula. I knew I have a fistula but didn't know anything else. I looked it up (I know, it's naughty) and they can bleed, amongst amniotic fluid, urine and feaces. I am trying not to worry and I comfort myself knowing my blood tests and CT scan were fine. I will keep you updated.

Sending you love and good vibes,

Well I am glad that they are referring you. The good news is that fistulas can be fixed, so I hope they can sort it out for you because having things coming out of your vagina that shouldn't be must be so distressing. I know I was terrified of getting on before starting my avastin chemo cocktail.

Hello,

I agree, it isn't great having gunk coming out of your lady bits.

I saw a surgeon who offered to fix it but it involved having both of stomas redone and then a plastic surgeon would take skin from my leg and graft it over the fistula. The operation takes hours, two teams and the success rate for operation isn't very good and it would mean a long stay in hospital. I said no thank you funnily enough.

The bleeding has stopped. My GP thought it maybe an inflammation.

I am okay though. Our bodies have been so much.

Love and good vibes,

Lisa x
