Help needed - smear audit results

Hey ladies

I was wondering if anyone who was diagnosed in a different trust to where their smears were carried out had been told it is their responsibility to get the audit done.

I have been fighting for 2.5 years to get an audit done on my smears, to finally be told by a consultant because I had my smears done in another trust it is my responsibility to ask for an audit with the original trust, surely that cant be right??? Or is it.

Any help greatly appreciated as right now I dont even know where to start.

Hi

Sorry to hear you are having a difficult time with getting your smear audit done.  I don't have experience of that situation but suggest that the Patient Advice and Liason Service (PALS) may be worth contacting.  I think all/most main NHS hospitals have a PALS department.  PALS provides help in many ways including 'help resolve concerns or problems when using the NHS'.

If it's OK to ask, I was wondering what type of cervical cancer you had.  I believe that the adenocarcinoma type, for example, is less likely to be picked up by the smear test than the squamous cell type.

Hope this of some help?

xx

Thanks for replying, I have put in a complaint to pals today after speaking with my specialist nurse. I had squamous cancer, which is allegedly a slow grower, but after having smears annually for 10 years I find it hard to believe
