How long for treatment to start

I had my smear on the 8th of April and was called for a coloscopy on the 27th may, biopsy confirmed cervical cancer. I have had an mri and ct scan which showed that it is in my lymph nodes within my pelvic region and the gynecologists told me cancer is covering most of my cervix so I would need radio and chemo. I had a pet/ct scan just a few days ago and have an appointment with the oncologist in a few days. I was just wondering what sort of time frame people have experienced between this and treatment actually starting?

Hello Bubbles You have not much longer to go now.   Next thing they need to do is take scans to mark the areas that they will target with rads.   This can sometimes take a few visits where they will scan and mark the areas with tattoos (  these are very small dots that you will never notice).    After this is all completed things usually happen very quickly and you should get a full itineray of your appointments for your full course of treatments.  You have a upcomming meeting with your oncologist in a few days so hopefully he will have your recent scan results and be able to give you a stage for your cancer and the full plan of action that they are going to take.  Hope this helps answer some of your questions XX

Thank you flower this has helped ease my mind a little, unfortunately I cannot get the treatment I need close to home so have to be away from home during the week and with a family to care for I'm just eager to know when my time away from home will be so that I can be organised and have things sorted at home.

Hi Bubbles

Sorry about your diagnosis, Like Flower says hopefully once you get the tattoos you will be ready to get started. The waiting is awful I know. It does feel better once treatment starts rather than just waiting. It’s an added worry for you I’m sure having to be away from home. I found the 5 weeks went very quickly and hope you will find it the same x

I had my appointment on thursday and  have been staged as 3c and just waiting for a scan now so they can start to plan my treatment. The oncologist said I should have my scan in the next 2 weeks then it will take 10 days to sort out a treatment plan. I have been told I will have 5 weeks of treatment of chemoradiation and on my last week will be taken to theatre to be examined in the hope I can get brachytherapy 2/3 times. I wasnt to emotional before this appointment but now I find my self emotional throughout the day and find my staging has hit me hard.

The emotional side of this is so very hard isn’t it and I think we can all relate to how you are feeling and can hopefully support you. It’s good that you will be starting treatment soon and that you are able to have the treatment plan that aims to cure. Many ladies are doing extremely well after this treatment and will help to get you through this x
