Doctor's Appointment

Hi lovely ladies,

I'd love to have some advice with regards to an upcoming doctors appointment.

I booked this appointment myself as I have had a number of changes that I want to get to the bottom of, as well as some symptoms that I have seemingly ignored the last few years.

I've put my changes down to hormones and perhaps my levels are off but I am also aware of the symptoms for cc and want to put my mind at rest with my doctor.

My symptoms are as follows and have seemed progressively worse the past few months:

Bleeding during and after sex, with what can only be described as a pinching feeling during sex. The last time I bled for 5 days after. Spotting between periods; constipation; nightsweats,(I am soaking the bedsheets on a regular occasion); lower back pain and worsening periods.

I know a number of things could be causing my symptoms but is there any way that I can ask for a smear? I'm not due my next smear for another 2 months but would prefer not to wait. Will they have to take bloods first before anything else? I just have a bad feeling that things have changed - and I've already been waiting for my appointment for 3 weeks as the surgery is overstretched. I am so thankful for the NHS and god bless those that work for them - I just do not want this to be overlooked and wondering whether they will even consider looking at my cervix at my first appointment.

My last smear was in August 2016 and all was ok ( this was 6 months before turning 25)

Thank you

xxx

Hi Effie

I would imagine that as your smear is due in a few weeks it shouldn’t be an issue to have one slightly early. For me I think if anyone is having any symptoms that may be cc they should be able to have a smear regardless, however sadly this isn’t always the case.

Good luck xxx

They should be able to get you in early you dont have to wait until the exact date (I didnt). Especially if you have other symptoms you should be allowed to have it.

Thank you for replying ladies. I have my appointment this week so will let you know how I get on, hoping it's just my hormones playing tricks on me.

Yeah never feel like you have to wait until your smear is due. If you have symptons they will give you a smear!x

I’ve had my visit!  I explained all my symptoms and my cervix was given a check with some swabs to rule out any infections. It was noted that part of my cervix looked sore and that I have bloods taken for my hormones as well as my thyroid.

With regards to my smear, I asked whether this could be brought forward but apparently not? I’ll have to wait until August, even though I’m yet to receive a letter.

I’ve been having pain on my right side andI assumed this was ovulation pain as I often bled after, however after confirming this to the doc, she made me then realise I’m on birth control I should no be having these sorts of pains (I’m an idiot!) So with that I’ve also been booked for an ultrasound to see if my ovaries are carrying any cysts! Has anyone else had this scan or type of pain on birth control?

I have since been bleeding since my check, with awful back/tummy ache! How long should this bleeding last? I’m feeling much better for going and hoping that I’ll have some answers soon! I’ve been put on a different pill too so I’m hoping that sorts me!

Thanks for reading xxx

I am still bleeding from the examination, should I be worried? I was examined on Thursday.

Thank you smile

Effie30

I've just been called for an ultrasound this Friday, is this unusual when I am still yet to receive my blood test results?

Thank you

Lotty9000

Hi Effie30

I would think this is probably the ultrasound that your GP referred you for therefore totally normal. Your blood tests will likely be through by now, the results are usually available within 24-48 hours. I don’t think it’s linked, I’m glad you’re getting appropriate referrals etc!

Goid luck and let us know how you get on xxxx

Thank you for your reply Lotty9000 :)

I took your advice and called the doctors surgery yesterday, all results back clear! Fab!

Until I received a call from my doctor today explaining some results are inconclusive and I will have to pay another visit. I'm assuming this isn't anything bad just that a test couldnt be analysed correctly?

Scan is tomorrow, so hopefull that may answer some questions :)

Awww fab news!

Thanks for messaging! Scan was clear too, which is great :)

Back to the drawing board however, next steps are to bring my smear forward and go from there.

So a quick update, I began to bleed after my ultrasound scan and didnt stop bleeding until Sunday just gone. Which is lucky as I had a repeat BV swab test today.

My smear letter came through for August, but the nurse said she wanted to perform my smear today. I went ahead and was thankful for this. However, my smear was pretty painful and I bled instantly, where it was pouring quite substaintially. The nurse said this is common and I have read elsewhere on this forum that it is, so I am not too concerned, I was more annoyed I had managed to cover my white dress in blood!

I should hopefully have my smear results in 2 weeks.
