Confused. Cysts found, hospital appointment, smear etc. Help

Hi everyone,
So back in August I was at a sex clinic when a nurse found a cyst on my cervix. She got the doctor to take a look and apparently it was a larger cyst than normal so they said they would refer me to Chelsea And Westminster hospital and said I would most likely have a colposcopy. They made me really worried.

Finally, I got my referral and saw a doctor at Chelsea and Westminster hosp on 3rd October.
The doctor looked at my cyst during a normal examination and said I also have lumps on my cervix but told me to come back if I got any symptoms.
She said they won't remove them as it could cause more trouble than it's worth.

They did not do a colposcopy. This makes me worried because I would of liked a 100% accurate answer as to what my cyst(s) actually are!?

The doctor did a smear test. As I've not had one before and I am 24 not yet 25 (which is when they do them apparently?!)
My Mum had CIN2 I think it was and the cells removed a few years back.

The doctor said she would also check the smear.
A week later I received a letter telling me the laboratory could not give a result. Meaning there wasn't enough cells present???
The letter also said to call my GP or family planning clinic to go for another smear.
I called chelsea and westminster and spoke to a nurse who told me I could not have another smear till January due to the fact the cells need to regenerate :(
I then called my family planning clinic who told me to come down on Saturday.

I went there Saturday and the nurse said she would not do the smear as it would produce the same result... AND to wait till January.
I showed her the letter but still she told me come back January.

Now I'm feeling paranoid and worried. Do you think I should wait? Should I see my GP?
Has anyone here had cysts on their cervix before?

Thank you.

Hi K887

If I were you I would ask for a biopsy of the Cysts, I had a smear in September which came back borderline abnormal cells so I was booked in for a colposcopy and was told not to worry too much due to the low grading of the cells. When the nurse put the camera in she realised straight away that there was a large lump on my cervix, she numbed the area straight away and took a biopsy.

I got the results a week later, telling me that I am now at stage 1b1. I'm now under going further tests. I had no other symptoms.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Wow. That is awful. I hate how slack they are about these things... I will chase this up with my GP and see what she says. Goodness me! I hope everything goes ok with you.

Hi K887,

I agree about having things checked further. While they don't seem to be worried about your cervix, it isn't worth taking chances. I would try to get a colposcopy and biopsy to see what's going on for sure, it seems ridiculous that while they had you there they didn't do one, and if they say they won't do anything until your next smear I would at least ask for an explanation of what they think the lumps are and why they are ok to leave things. You know your body best and if you feel things aren't right don't feel bad about asking more questions. It might be that you have a strain of hpv that causes warts rather than abnormal cells and maybe that's why they're not worried but I think maybe go see your gp and tell them your worries.

Don't rely on doctors or nurses to be worried. If you are worried then you have to follow this up, they won't. There's far too many stories of hospitals, drs, nurses, consultants being lax and not listening to us. If you're not happy see another dr / specialist, the very least you deserve is proper treatment and tests. If nothing else it rules out other more serious issues and puts your mind at ease.
Keep fighting until you're happy, you're not alone.
