hello to the new people!

I just wanted to welcome all the new people to the site, I'm glad you've found us no matter what your circumstances as this is a great place for information and support. If you need good information have a look at the links at the top of the page.

Also read the Welcome and posting guidelines message http://www.jotrust.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2344 There are people with many different reasons for being here from an abnormal smear to dealing with various treatments, and other issues like infertillity so a little tact is sometimes required. :)

There's a role call thread too which is very good as it tells of all the different reasons why some of us are here, so feel free to add your story.

Jo's is a place which is non judgemental and you can talk openly about things that you might feel embarrassed about in other circumstances - we all understand.

Also feel free to join us on the 18th at the demo - the more the merrier as it's important that we're heard.

Love and hugs

Zoë

I have just joined this website forum after hearing about Jo's on Jade's Legacy. At 31 I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and received chemo then a radical hysterectomy that was 3 1/2 years ago, I only wish I had found this site then, I have read some posts and they are all very informative and inspirational. I am glad some good has came out of Jade's very open approach to her cancer and as the program said it seems to have had a greater effect on woman than any nhs advert could ever hope for.

Hi there i have just joined and omg i am soooo glad i have found this site have been made to feel like like what i am going through is soo common and happens to us all well it doesnt...

I am 26 with 3 children and last month went for my 1st smear test should have been years ago because i am in scotland and i have to say it was thanx to Jade (what a wonderful inspiration she is)
got a call from my doctor saying u will shortylrecieve a letter from local hospital because youre smear has come back as abnormal i am in on the 9th April for colpscopy and biopsy and depending on what they find LLETZ treatment too

I think that is what is worrying me the most because i cant prepare for what is going to happen there because i dont know it all depends on what they see i am very worried because i could have had this for over 10 yrs or more and i wouldnt have been any the wiser i have had symptoms for many years now and docs just say its down to heavy periods and hormone inbalances which is why i have MAJOR period pains and irregular bleeding every month i am slightly however glad that at least they have found something and now can be treated whichever way is best..going on a bit now sorry but everyone i talk to says yeah dont worry u will be fine but arrghhh i could scream at them sometimes   never mind carry on with all the hard work you are doing for the rally thinks its brilliant and all of you in the same and worse position you truly are an inspiration to me xxx

HI everyone.

Fantastic post Zoe,

I too would like to welcome each and every one of the new girls (and men). I hope that you all find something from Jos, and that we can help each other through whatever stage of our journeys we are at.

I found Jos 7 years ago, and Melissa was my guardian angel who became my inspiration to get through it.

There is a wealth of experience from the ladies on here, who are here to give each person as much support as we can.

The forum is a great place for communication and we all try and respect each others feelings and look after each other.

I have made the most amazing friends on here and these people will be my friends for ever.

Giving you all some big hugs n plenty of love.

Ex :) :) :) :)

Hi guys *waves*

I've been on Jo's for about a month now... have rarely posted but have trawled through the threads which has helped me feel slightly more prepared for what could be ahead.

I get my biopsy results later today and don't know how I feel.. scared, apprehensive, nervous, and I suppose, in a way, excited. The past few months have been taken up with worrying and waiting. It will be nice to know if i've been worrying with reason or if I can start 'living' again. ( if that makes sense? :? )

Thank you so so much. This site is truley fantastic and full of wonderful, inspirational, marvelous ladies. :D

Hi everyone,

Im snix just heard about this sight on 'this morning' so thpught i would give it a look.

I was diagnosed with stage 3 back in Sept 2002 had they usualy colposcpys etc thought after the 1st time it would be over, went for the usual 6 month check and knew by the dr face somthing wanst right. I was wipped in that afternoon and had part of my cervix removed. All has seemed fine since now on year checks only had 1 funny smear since and it was border line.
That was until week befor last my gp called and said he had a letter from the hospital consultant requesting to see me asap for further tests so i go back tomorrow. To be honest im crapping it in a big way last time i had all this they advised me to have a hystorectomy which i refused because i want children, they told me if the results ever came back i would have no choice. Im totaly and utterly gutted we have just started the ivf journey i dont want it to be over so im going into panic mode.
They are worried because they gave me a fertility drug called chlomid which can increase the chance of cervical cancer but I wanted to take the risk. And taking the drug was my choice shame it didnt work. I also have pocs which can be high risk for ovarian cancer.
Gawd im going on i just dont know what i want to say or how to get it out my hubby is gr8 and i have a good mate on the net who helps me to try to stay possative but with all the media stuff atm i feel like im suffocating in it again.
I want to know now but they told me the results willtake longer because of the 'Jade Goody' affect im sorry but they should employ more staff to get the results out quicker, or am i being selfish. Every time i hear about Jade i burst into tears, im so stressed about it.

any way thanks for listening.
take care all xx

cin 2a @ Sept 2002, lexx & part cervix removed.
All clear since.
Pocs and fertility problems, pescribed chlomid.
March 2009 abnormal cells awaiting results.

Hi, it's good to have you join us. i do know what you're going through with your worry about children, i had chemo/radiation so won't be able to carry a pregnancy but try to stay positive and wait and see what they say first. I also went through the IVF process so know what that's like too and i delayed my treatment to have it done. The only way i stayed positive through the treatment was to remember that although it will change your life it will also give you your life. maybe life will take a different turn and you'll be on another path to the one you would have liked but you are not alone and you will cope. I really hope it goes well when you have your appointment, in the mean time remember you can get lots of support here and there are people who understand what you're going through. take care hun, love jenny xxxxxxxxxxxx

Good luck with everything, you've already been through a lot and I can imagine how devestating the thought of loosing your fertility must be.

I only found this site on Monday, I was about the lowest I've ever been so far and it really helped me having somewhere to express my feelings where I wasn't judged or made to feel like I was wasting their time (and I know what you mean about the Jade Goodie thing, I have to turn over, it frightens the cr** out of me, lol)

Hi,

I went for a colposcopy and biopsy yesterday, the doctor thought it looked like grade 2 or 3 but didnt really explain what this means can anyone help?

steph1967

hi and welcome to jo's
when they do the colcopscpy {or however u spell it}they will grade the cervix cell changes with a 1 being lowest and a 3 being deepest level if you have a look at the info on cervical cancer or rather pre cancerous cells which is what this is it will explain it better, did you have treatment or a biopsy,if it was a biopsy they will wait for the results and decide if you need monitoring or treatment,i have recently had a lletz done for what appeared to be cin 3,the actual proceedure is ok,its the waitng for results to check they got it all thats the problem .
dont go googling you will scare your self silly, take it from one that knows but read all the info on here, its easy to understand and use the girls for support they been my lifeline the past 3 weeks

Thanks for that, I didn't have treatment as they said they prefer to wait for results. I will admit i have been googling but not recommended.

He did say i will probably need treatment but didn say what that would be however he said they do it there in outpatients. I found it very strange to see my cervix on screen have to say didnt expect that :)

For me its the shock of an abnormal result with something so routine, especially as i got my letter on Fri 13th lol

hello, I'm a newbie !
I joined today after receieving my smear results yesterday. Both my last two smears have shown changes so now I'm waiting for my first colposcopy appointment.
I rang my local hospital who tell me I may have to wait six weeks, but reading all the information I can find, it seems that the treatment regimes are very successfull so trying not to panic! My husband has already convinced himself that he wont need to buy me a christmas present this year so I seem to be spending more time calming him down than worrying about myself.

Its funny, but I knew they would be abnormal, lots of pain and bleeding and an odd sensation in my right groin....I'm almost relieved that someone can finally have a good scoot round up there and tell me all is well.
I guess the recent publicity has been great in getting women to get screened and followed up, so at least something hugely positive has come out of something so tragic.....I feel lucky to have been picked up in the system, and to be fair it was only the Jade situation that got me up off my backside and start taking my health more seriously.....so thankyou and good on her !.....

debsmuz

Hi, I'm debs..(newbie lol) 27 married mam to 3 girls! went for my first smear in jan... Should of went years ago  found out smear was abonormal..had a bit of a shock but went to colposcopy and learned I had severe dyskariosis, CIN 3. had a loop biopsy, the results come back as that they were high grade pre-cancer and had to return for a repeat smear beginning of april. Its has been a very worrying and scary time of my life I wish I'd of went sooner, when I was meant to, and again its the Jade Goody effect isnt it? As it was highlighted so much and I was having painful irregular bleeding. I'm so lucky I went when I did and grateful that it has been highlighted so much in the press xxx

Hi to all,

Just joined but I have been reading on and off for a while now. I feel a bit of a fraud being on here as I haven't went through anything you ladies have. I started looking about a year ago when my best friend was diagnosed with cervical cancer.

I wanted to say how much I admire you all!

tallie

Hi all,

I am new to this and dont really know where i am meant to be writing my posts. I went for my smear 4 weeks ago and yesterday receieved a letter in the post saying that i had moderate dyskaryosis and needed to see my nurse. I went today and she explained that i ahve abnormal cells grade 2 and i will need a colposcopy for cells to be removed by laser treatment. I am booked in on 6th April. I am confused and worried as i really dont understand what it all means.
Any advice would be very welcome.

sal77

Hello to everyone, I'm a new member as of today.
I joined as I had yet another abnormal smear and was referred for a colposcopy which I had on Monday. I was more than a little shocked to be told by the doc that I'd been referred as a level 3 CIN which I had not been told about in advance and I had the Lletz treatment straight away on Monday.
I suppose I joined because I want to see what others are experiencing post Lletz. So far so good (though it is only a couple of days since), went to work next day and today, though think in reflection a day off may have been a good idea! I just can't believe that I have to wait 6-8 weeks for my results! Is that normal or is that worst case scenario and they usually come through before?
My main worry in the short term is getting an infection, does anyone have any useful tips to help prevent one? Also a little confused as to if I can bath or not?
Warm wishes to all of you out there, great to find such a caring informative site. xxx

Numerous mixed results from smear tests over the years.
Abnormal smear Feb 09.
Colposcopy and Lletz 23rd March 09, referred as CIN3

It's a mixed blessing to see so many people here - it's sad that this forum is needed but it's great that we can help women go through what we've been through.

There's a few of us who have been here a while and between us we have quite a lot of experience in our own treatments and also through other women that have come and gone (both in good ways and bad). So we're not medical experts and can't give medical advice BUT we do know a lot about how to deal with things on a personal level!

I also wanted to add that it helps if you give us a little information about your treatment and staging - if you don't know these things it's a good thing to find out. That way we can guide you with our experiences.

We don't need to know personal info about where you live and stuff - but different PCTs do do things slightly differently so that can help. HOWEVER there are certain treatment plans that are generally standard throughout the country - like the use of chemoradiation and so on. We have women who have also had non-standard treatment for various reasons - such as complications or have been involved in drug trials and so on. So as much information that you can gather helps us to help you.

I'll also add that in my experience knowledge is power - and that's good knowledge not the scary stuff you get from googling! The more you know about the treatments that you are being offered the more you can make informed decisions, and that really helps psycholgically.

Finally for those of you waiting for coloscopy results etc the old adage no news is good news is true - the longer you wait the more likely that you don't have anything sinister. The NHS usually works pretty quickly once a cancer cell is found. Try not to work yourself up and DON'T google! Use the links at the top of this page to direct you to good sound information. Distract yourself with normal life.

Hugs

hi all
just wanted to say fab site and keep up the great work you are doing on here and to give u a bit of info on me
well i am in worcestershire and have had several smear tests all abnormal but mild but this time it was so different the doctor ( at family planning)actually winched when she examied me ( i thought OMG) then she sat me down said not be alarmed but u have a very large excropia and need laser its nothing to worry about and also your cervix is very imflammed and bleed on contact, so u need to see the gyn and she wrote a letter to give my gp, off i went to my gp who sent me of to gyn (my appointment is 8th april) in the mean time i have had my smear results saying severe dyskaryosis and an appintment for colposcopy which i might add i had the letter for that before my smear result so as u can imagine i was concerned and it stated in my letter about having a biopsy on friday (3rd) when i go to the appointment???

now with all the other things i have wrong down there i am hoping for a hiscortomy but who knows?

sorry for my bad spelling :(

will let you know how i get on from friday and there after love and hugs to all xxxxxxxxxxxx
