Evaluating the psychological impact of HPV primary screening in NHS England

The Department of Health has just announced that it will be rolling out primary HPV testing as part of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme across the whole of England going forward.

HPV primary testing was piloted across six NHS sites in England: London North West, North Bristol, Sheffield, Norfolk and Norwich, Manchester and Liverpool. The NHS Cervical Screening Programme has linked up with University College London to help evaluate some important psychological areas, including how women feel about their screening results. The study will help make sure primary HPV testing is being clearly explained to women and will identify any aspects of communication that need improving.

If you attend a cervical screening appointment in one of the six areas listed above, you might receive a pack through the post (to your home address) inviting you to take part in this research. If you would like further information, or to opt-out from receiving this invitation pack, please visit the study website.
