The Leicester Support Group is run by Fiona who is a cervical cancer survivor and passionate about supporting women.
"I'm a midwife in Leicester, I live with my husband and cat and I love baking (and eating) cakes. I'm a cervical cancer 'survivor' (not a term I'm hugely keen on!) and had a radical hysterectomy. I've just passed my 5 year all clear.
I have been attending the group since Debbie set it up, and have found as well as getting help and support myself, I have been able to offer the same to others. Something I'd like to continue to do. 5 years on, I still need support sometimes, so I know how important groups like ours are. It helps so much to talk to others with a uniquely shared experience."
About the group
Our group is very relaxed and totally led by the group members. We have one lovely lady who brings in home-made cakes for us and we discuss a wide variety of topics covering emotions, well-being and even getting the right travel insurance! We do discuss fertility issues quite regularly but that is just one of the topics covered. At a recent meeting a guest oncologist came in to talk to us. By coming to the Leicester group you will be welcomed by a wonderful group of ladies who have all been affected by cervical cancer and have all had different experiences along the way.
The support that is given not only during the group meetings but also through the Facebook page that members are a part of is a place where people can talk openly about their feelings and emotions with other ladies that know what they are going through and can offer advice and support. I really can’t emphasise enough how great this group is and how welcoming all the ladies are, if you feel you could benefit from attending this group please come along we would love to meet you.
