It is with great sadness that we must announce the closure of Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust, effective immediately. For over two decades, our organisation has been at the forefront of cervical cancer awareness, education, and support for individuals and families impacted by this devastating disease. However, despite our unwavering commitment and dedication, the financial challenges we face have become insurmountable, leading us to the difficult decision to place the charity into insolvency. Trustees have taken specialist advice in reaching this decision and are currently working with insolvency professionals to wind up the charity. The provision of services, including the telephone helpline, the online forum, our engagement activities and all other activities will unfortunately cease immediately (23 May, 2024).
We have been privileged to work alongside incredible staff, volunteers, healthcare professionals, and supporters who share our passion for preventing cervical cancer and supporting those affected by it. Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones in raising awareness, providing vital information, and offering support services to thousands of individuals across the country. While we celebrate the progress we have made together, we cannot ignore the financial constraints that have forced us to reach this decision. Despite our best efforts to secure sustainable funding and navigate the complexities of the current economic climate, the reality is that we can no longer continue our operations.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has been a part of the Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust journey. To our dedicated staff, volunteers, donors, partners, and supporters, we extend our sincerest thanks for your unparalleled efforts, passion, and generosity. Your contributions have made a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by cervical cancer, and your support has been a beacon of hope for many.
As we close this chapter, we do so with heavy hearts but also with immense pride in all that we have accomplished together. This charity was the vision of Jo and James Maxwell with the support of their family and friends following Jo’s diagnosis. At that time there was limited reliable information and support and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust changed that. We also influenced the development of health policy and contributed to positive changes across the sector. Although Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust will no longer be operational, we encourage women and those who need support and information to access other organisations and resources as listed below.
Since the inception of this charity, the possibility of eliminating cervical cancer has become closer to reality due to developments in the cervical screening and HPV vaccination programs. We sincerely hope that the progress achieved to date is not lost and that the UK Government develops a funded plan to eliminate cervical cancer at the earliest opportunity.

The Trust is currently liaising with a firm of liquidators with regard to the formal appointment of liquidators in the near future. Once appointed, the liquidators will be in touch with affected parties.
