Cervical Screening Awareness Week (CSAW) is an annual week held to provide an opportunity for discussing the importance of cervical screening in preventing cervical cancer. The week, spearheaded by Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust was the most successful yet with increase news coverage and a 30% increase in website visits.

During the week Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust:

  • Raised awareness – the charity and our supporters participated in a range of media stories from TV to radio to newspapers, online articles, and glossy magazines. These include: The Sun, Mirror, Telegraph and the BBC. To read some of the online articles check out the news section on our website.
  • Spread the message that screening should be part of every women’s routine by sending materials and our screening advert to 500 GP surgeries across the UK. Watch the advert on YouTube here.
  • Announced application for our annual Cervical Screening Awards. The Awards provide a fantastic opportunity to share best practice with all professionals working in the field of cervical screening as well as rewarding excellence in increasing awareness and uptake of screening in local communities.
  • Campaigned to raise the profile of cervical cancer prevention by hosting a reception at Stormont, Belfast to raise awareness at the Northern Ireland parliament.
  • Distributed materials to health practices, hospitals, individuals and companies to promote cervical cancer prevention.
  • Coordinated five fantastic Walks for Fun events in Barry, Huntingdon, Leeds, Lincoln and London which have raised over £12,000 in sponsorship monies. See our Flickr pages for some photos of the walks.
