Much of the work we do at Jo’s relies on health care professionals generously volunteering their time and expertise to us. If you are interested in joining the fantastic men and women who help to keep our services and information production running smoothly then there are several ways you can get involved, including:

• Acting as a peer reviewer during the production and reviewing of our information resources (both online and printed)
• Joining our panel of medical experts who volunteer on for our Ask The Expert support service
• Becoming a member of our user feedback group, Jo’s Voices, who help us develop and refine our information
• Becoming a volunteer for our free Helpline, which is manned by volunteers who have had personal or professional experience of cervical cancer or cervical abnormalities

Peer reviewers

In order to retain our certification as holders of the Information Standard, which endorses us as producers of reliable public health information, it is essential that all of the information is based on scientific evidence, and is written and/or reviewed regularly by medical experts. Without your expertise we would be unable to guarantee that everything we produce for the people who use our services is fully up to date and accurate.

As a peer reviewer, you would be contacted on an ad hoc basis, as a when we produce new content or review current information. You would be approached to review content that comes within your specialist areas of interest. The length of the information sections ranges quite a lot, but you would be contacted in advance to check your availability. As a peer reviewer you would be asked to look at several key aspects of the content and the process can take several rounds of back and forth before final sign off.

Ask The Expert medical panellists

Our Ask The Expert service is one of our most popular support services. It offers women, and sometimes their friends, families or partners, the opportunity to put their questions to a panel of qualified experts.

As a Medical Panellist for our Ask The Expert service you would receive, on average, about one question a week to respond to. These questions will be on a variety of topics, but you would be sent queries that are appropriate for you and your area of expertise.
