The UK’s only charity dedicated to supporting women affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities has been highly commended in the 2011 Plain English Awards for its website (www.jostrust.org.uk)

Claire Cohen, Education and Information Coordinator at Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust said: “We are delighted to receive the Plain English Award for our website. We provide information to a range of audiences which vary in age, background and education. With all our information provision, we aim to be clear, concise, appropriate and medically accurate.”

The Plain English Campaign awards are now in their 32nd year and recognise public nominations gathered over the year for both well and poorly written public information.

Chrissie Maher, founder of the Plain English Campaign, said: "I wanted the campaign to give people the confidence to push back on the growing mountain of confusion and meaningless language in public information."

Claire Cohen added “On our website we made a conscious editorial decision to use clear English, free of jargon, to ensure the reader could understand the content easily. It is extremely rewarding to be acknowledged for the quality of our website.”

The awards are being presented on National Plain English Day, Friday 9 December, at The Cavern Club, Liverpool.
